Professor of Information Systems & Business Process Management at the University of Münster and Director of ERCIS - The European Research Center for Information Systems

Jan is a distinguished academic and professional in the field of Information Systems and Business Process Management (BPM). He also holds visiting professorships and lectureships at several universities including the University of Liechtenstein, the University of St.Gallen (HSG), the University of Luzern in Switzerland, and Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam.

He is regarded one of the founders of Process Science, the interdisciplinary study of socio-technical change, and he has been named an Honorary Distinguished Professor for Process Science at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth University.

He has an impressive publication record with over 30 books and 400 papers in top-tier journals such as Management Science, MISQ, ISR, JMIS, JIT, ISJ, EJIS, and MIT Sloan Management Review. He is the editor and author of bestsellers such as the International Handbook on Business Process Management, BPM – Driving Innovation in a Digital World, Green BPM, and the BPM Cases Series.

The Stanford List of the World`s Top 2% Scientists positions him in the top 0.5% most cited researchers across all fields of science.

His leadership roles include being the President of the Liechtenstein Chapter of the AIS, former Vice President of the Association for Information Systems (AIS), and Vice President of the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB). He has also served as Vice President of the University of Liechtenstein.

He is the recipient of more than 30 international awards, including the Association for Information Systems (AIS)`s "AIS Senior Scholars' Best Publication Award", the “AIS Technology Challenge Award”, and the "AIS Award for Outstanding Contribution to IS Education". He has ben named a Fellow of the AIS, a Fellow of  the ESCP Center for Design Science in Entrepreneuship, and a Schoeller Senior Fellow at Friedrich Alexander University (FAU), and an Academic Research Fellow at MIT CISR – Center for Information Systems Research.

With teaching experiences spanning 23 universities in 13 countries, including many of the Financial Times Top 50 Business Schools, he has guided his students to compete in international challenges like the Accenture Campus Challenge, the SAP DemoJam, and the Hilti IT Competition.

Beyond academia, he serves as a trusted advisor to numerous organizations and governments on Digital Innovation and Transformation.
